In celebration of Day 1,000 of “thesongadayproject,” local singer-songwriter Zachary Scot Johnson has teamed up with a handsomely bearded Jeremy Messersmith to cover Sia’s worldwide hit, “Chandelier.”
Thesongadayproject is a self-explanatory pursuit that Johnson began in September of 2012. His original goal was to record and post one song a day, every day, for as long as possible. In an incredible feat of willpower, he has made it 1,000 days as of today. After about 100 days, his YouTube channel exploded, and the rest is history.
After a year, Johnson began asking his favorite musicians to join him. To name a few, Johnson has featured Jeff Daniels, Lisa Loeb, and David Wilcox, along with Creed Bratton of “The Office” fame. Read more about the project in Austin Gerth’s recent story.
“Chandelier” isn’t Jeremy Messersmith’s first pop cover: last year at Rock the Garden, he sang Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball.” (Tickets for this year’s Rock the Garden are now available.) In a brief conversation before “Chandelier,” Messersmith tells Johnson that he has “lots of new songs” he’ll be playing on his upcoming “Supper Club” house tour.
