Chris Koza, Jillian Rae, and more to play batteryboy’s third and final Southern Theater Sessions

by Raisa Elhadi

July 21, 2015

On July 31 and Aug. 1, Cobey Rouse of batteryboy will be curating a final set of special sessions at the Southern Theater. The third annual sessions will feature intimate, one-of-a-kind performances from batteryboy, Chris Koza, Al Church, Jillian Rae, Joey Ryan, Erik Koskinen, and Moon and Pollution.

These sessions are a distinctive experience for listeners because the more personal setting provides an opportunity for artists to re-work their songs into a new version that suits the event. Koza, Church, and Moon and Pollution have all recently released records; and batteryboy comes fresh from an opening gig for Cloud Cult.

In an e-mail, Rouse said that this third annual set of Southern Theater Sessions will be the final go-round, although he'll continue to "continue to host similar events in the same spirit of collaborative art at other theaters/venues around the Cities." Last year's sessions featured artists including Murder of Crows and Alpha Consumer; the inaugural run in 2013 included performances by Gabriel Douglas, Carroll, and more.

The Southern Theater Sessions: Act 3 will take place on July 31 and Aug. 1. Single-day tickets are $10; a two-day pass is $16. For more information, see the theater's website.
