by Sadie Bell

July 02, 2015

The Minnesota band Mint Condition return to First Avenue, where they were discovered in 1989, for a show on Thursday, Aug. 6 to benefit the National Association of Black Journalists. The show will also feature local artists #MPLS, 1000, Felix of Heiruspecs, and DJ Ray Richardson.

Formed at St. Paul's Central High, Mint Condition were discovered in 1989 by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Throughout the '90s and early 2000s, Mint Condition reigned on R&B charts, producing four albums between '91 and '99. After a six-year hiatus, the band resurfaced in 2005, producing Livin' the Luxury Brown, which hit #1 on the Independent Charts. Since then, the band has produced three other albums, toured with Prince, and were inducted into the Soul Music Hall of Fame. The band will be releasing their latest album Healing Season this October.

Tickets are available for $20 in advance and $25 at the door for their homecoming show.
