Watch Gaelynn Lea join Lucius onstage at First Avenue

by Jay Gabler

March 24, 2016

Last night, Lucius played a sold-out concert at First Avenue's Mainroom, and they welcomed a local guest onstage: none other than Gaelynn Lea, the Duluth singer-songwriter who recently made national headlines when she won NPR's Tiny Desk Contest.

Lucius's Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe were both judges in the contest. "Hers was the one melody that stayed with me throughout the process," Laessig said in a statement when Lea's victory was announced. "It's captivating and powerful."

"The way her voice resonates is so unusual and beautiful, like nothing I've ever heard before," said Wolfe at the time. "It was a voice and an arrangement that captured me immediately."

Below, watch Lea join Lucius on violin and vocals in a performance of the band's "Two of Us On the Run," in a video captured by local music fan Kyle Matteson.
