Friday Five: Haley Bonar, the Counterfactuals, and more Minnesota music videos

by Cecilia Johnson

June 17, 2016

Haley Bonar, "Kismet Kill"

Haley Bonar's new video, directed by Nicole Brending, tells the story of a prom queen grown old. Pale pink, black, and metallic shades suit this song perfectly, teasing Bonar's new album Impossible Dream, due August 5.

The Counterfactuals, "Every Turn You Take Is Right"

"I didn't set out to write a song about mansplaining," writes Daniel Groll of Northfield's the Counterfactuals. "But our videographer, Peter Nelson, heard it that way, and...well, the result is pretty hilarious." He's right — larger-than-life masks amp up the goofiness and tension as this picnic date goes south.

Mark Mallman, "Terrified"

Just weeks after his goofy, Snapchat-shot "It's Good To Be Alive," Mark Mallman has dropped another arresting video.

Niki Becker, "Reactor"

Niki Becker and crew hit the Stone Arch Bridge in this new video. "I am the reactor," sings Becker over snappy percussion.

Reina del Cid, "Lover, Be Mine"

Reina del Cid's new song — in which the folksy favorite goes reggae — is a treat. Its video takes fans into the studio, capturing the recording process and a few cute moments behind the scenes.
