Two Fury Things sign on as Local Current DJs in Residence

by Kelsey

August 05, 2016

Now in its second year, Local Current’s DJ in Residence program is an opportunity for The Current to invite local musicians to take over our all-Minnesota music stream and share their favorite stories and music from the local scene. So far, Local Current’s DJs in Residence have included Danielle Cusack (Bruise Violet/Tony Peachka), deM atlaS, Gabriel Douglas (the 4onthefloor), Sophia Eris, and many others. Taking the mic in August as Local Current’s first-ever co-hosts are Kyle Werstein and Devon Bryant, two-thirds of Fury Things.

Buzzy rock trio Fury Things are a force to be reckoned with in the Twin Cities. Along with drummer Andrew Carson, Werstein (vocals/guitar) and Bryant (bass) describe themselves as “quiet dudes playing loud music” and let their hook-filled, fuzz-laden songs do the talking.

Since their formation in 2012, Fury Things have collected local accolade after accolade, including City Pages Picked to Click (2013), First Avenue’s Best New Bands (2014), City Pages’ Best Rock Band (2015), and a slot on The Current’s Local Top 89 (2015). Impressively, these awards came rolling in before the release of VHS, Fury Things’ debut full length record, in December 2015.

As one of the hardest-working bands in the Twin Cities, Fury Things have a stacked tour schedule this summer, with stops at the Triple Rock Social Club, the Northeast Food Truck Rally, Northbound Fest, and Square Lake Fest. In addition to these gigs, Werstein and Bryant are excited to launch their radio careers on Local Current.

“This is an amazing opportunity to really dive deep into The Current’s local music collection, spin our favorites and find new ones” says Werstein. “Being the DJs in residence helps us connect to the scene in an exciting and meaningful way.”

Bryant adds, “we’re really excited to be able to highlight some music from our friends and bands we admire, and who knows, we might even be able to premiere some fresh new tunes!”

Spend your Friday afternoons diving deep into the Minnesota music scene with Fury Things: every Friday in August from noon to 6 p.m. on Local Current!
