Friday Five: Astronautalis, Lizzo, and more new Minnesota music videos

by Cecilia Johnson

September 23, 2016

Astronautalis, "Kurt Cobain"

Jacksonville, Florida native Astronautalis delves into his past on "Kurt Cobain," the opening track from new album Cut The Body Loose. The video is visually arresting, even as the rapper recounts having guns pulled on him ("Gun pulled on me by a cop one time/ Four guns pulled on me in Atlanta last night"), and the shoutouts to the South make the song quintessentially Astronautalis.

Lizzo, "Phone"

Lizzo veers toward 2009 Major Lazer territory in "Phone," the saga of a vogue-happy night gone wrong. She drops Coconut Oil, a six-track EP featuring "Phone" and Barbershop: The Next Cut hit "Good As Hell," on October 7.

deM atlaS, "Perfect Day"

deM atlaS shouts his joy from the cartops in "Perfect Day," which features cameos by Spencer Joles, Slug, and picturesque St. Paul streets.

Communist Daughter, "Roll A Stone"

Harry Reynolds directs this new Communist Daughter video, a sunny tune from the indie band's upcoming The Cracks That Built The Wall (release date: October 21).

Dusty Heart, "Timbre and Trail"

Dusty Heart are Molly Dean and Barbara Jean, an Americana duo whose harmonies could soothe the most restless soul. Catch Dusty Heart's video/single release show at the Turf Club on Sep. 29.
