Hip-hop has long been a mainstay in Minnesota (and wrongfully overlooked at times), so it makes sense that Soundset takes place in our backyard thanks to the good folks at local label Rhymesayers. The 2012 installment of the festival is coming back to Canterbury Park in the recently SNL-parodied city of Shakopee on May 27, and if years past are any indication, tickets will sell-out faster than ever, hinged on impressive line-ups of extremely new and quickly rising artists alongside veterans. Most of the line-up will no doubt travel far and wide for the event to probably play their largest audience.
The big names to watch out for include Atmosphere, Lupe Fiasco, Ghostface Killah & Raekwon, Aesop Rock, P.O.S., Big K.R.I.T. and Astronautalis. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, of course, as the festival will include over 40 artists performing on two stages and will be hosted by Brother Ali, MaLLy and J Pratt. Other festivities are back this go-around including skateboard demos, a custom car show, B-Boy battles and more.
