Prince returns to the Twin Cities for two shows May 25

Prince will play 2 shows at Myth in Maplewood, MN on May 25th.

Prince fans, rejoice! Prince is returning to the metro area for two shows — on the same day — at Myth Live, May 25th, 2013.

Tickets will go on sale Saturday, May 4th at noon on the MythLive website and eTix. Tickets are $259 a pop, a price tag that’s already resulting in some sticker shock for local fans.

“We realize tickets aren’t cheap for this experience,” a representative from Myth posted on their Facebook page, posting a link to a set list from a similar show Prince just played in San Francisco. “The ticket prices are the same on nearly every date of Prince’s current, intimate tour run.”

No word yet on what crazy antics Prince will trot out in addition to giving more exposure to his backing band 3rd Eye Girl, but if his SXSW show is any indication, it’s a can’t-miss show, and a very rare (non-festival) opportunity for the all-ages crowd to bask in the purple glory.

What do you think: Will you spring for tickets to one of Prince’s shows at Myth?

Sorry, Prince. I’m too poor for you.

  • Arcadestooge

$259.00 ticket does not make you relevant

That is some arrogant bullshit. I agree with Arcadestooge…kind of a Vegas move.

Remember the days when he would play for us at Paisley Park for just a small fee and it was just as intimate? Seems like so long ago, now. :-P

Sorry dude – The thing about pricing is, it is an affair between supply and demand. I’m sure there are diehard fans out there, and there will be the douches who show off to a spouse or loved one with their splurging, etc. The point is – as an artist, you have to be both compensated for your time and talent while realizing and humbling yourself… Realizing you are no god, you haven’t served or fought for this country, and you are a talent yes but what is your talent really worth? You have talent no doubt, you are true to MN – cool, but humble yourself and be real to the fans OR charge ridiculous ticket prices, fall off the radar, and be a soon forgotten relic. Stay true to the game and make music for the world to enjoy, these are hard enough times without your $250 tickets.

If u don’t have the $ tben U can’t go! People kill me complaining about ticket prices when Prince has done shows for cheap as well as steep! Prince in an Intimate setting is worth it if u want to see a Once in a Lifetime Genius of a performer!

$259 at arguably the worst venue in the metro area. No thank you.

does it come with a happy ending ?

When i was in high school, Purple Rain came out. 1999 seemed so far away… In the early 2000s I caught wind of Prince playing at Paisley one night. I went, even though i didn’t own a single Prince record. It was one of the top musical events of my life. Ever since then I’ve been wanting to see Prince perform. Will I pay $259 to see him? Well, when else will I get a chance to see him play in a club? I’ve been enjoying his music all my life. Why not pay a lifetime’s worth of ticket prices to see him at a one-in-a-lifetime event?

Mr. Prince/Myth I am a hugh fan and have been since I was 9 years old way back in 1980. But sweetheart I can’t afford or justify spending $259.00 for a ticket to come hear you play let alone having to buy two so one of my friends can go with me. If I had that type of cash where I could just spend that amount and it didnt take away from my rent or any other bill, I probably would.
Mr. Prince you are worth every dime but I just can’t see me spending that amount at this time. Love you Man. Onikanicole Craven

  • I think he is damn special

My friend says if he paid 259 to see Prince, then he wants to go to his house for dinner afterwards, and meet his first cousins and sister too, ha that the price is to keep out the riff raff, that his true fans will go, and they will fly in from all over to go, and that it will sell out too.

Remember those $5 shows he’d throw at 1st Ave. on a moments notice?

OMG Today is my 59th birthday and I have always wanted to see you, I am so sad that the cost is $259 for a ticket. Please think of us fans that just can’t afford such an extravant cost. I love you music and think you are awesome. Consider putting on a concert for us Minnesotans that is in our price range. Rock on Prince!
