Friday Five: Har Mar teams with Trampled by Turtles and more new Minnesota music videos
June 27, 2014
Happy Friday! This week's selection of videos really runs the gamut, from a new song from Trampled by Turtles to the latest from our state's biggest Top 40 pop artist of the moment to a complete newcomer who just released their debut album. In other words, business as usual here in Minnesota...
Trampled by Turtles
Need further proof that the Minnesota music scene is especially good at blurring genre lines? No one batted an eye that neo-soul singer Har Mar Superstar had the starring role in the latest video from bluegrass-inspired Americana band Trampled by Turtles. I mean, why wouldn't he? It turns out Har Mar is especially convincing as a world-weary cab driver, and the moody video suits the tone of their somber new track perfectly.
Owl City
Is that the same young actor who made a cameo in the Cloak Ox video last year?
Batteryboy
This is so tender and heartrending. This new video from Batteryboy features the sparse track "Matter of Trust" off his 2013 release Up for Air.
Buddakao
Meet Buddakao: a new hybrid hip-hop and rock band who just released their new album, Hand Over Hand.
Carnage
And we'll end things with the always-reliable Carnage, who has been recording these "Public Execution" videos live in one take and posting them without any edits. It's a great primer on the beatboxer and rapper's many extraordinary abilities.
