The Local Show celebrates the all-ages scene with ‘Back to School’ episode September 7

by Andrea Swensson

August 11, 2014

Two years ago, the local team here at the Current stumbled across so many impressive high-school bands that we decided to air the first ever high-schoolers-only edition of The Local Show. And it's turned into quite the fun tradition—there are only so many young up-and-coming bands that we can stumble on by chance, so it's become our annual "call to action" for the 18-and-under set.

Back in 2012 we invited Bomba de Luz into the studio to record a session and aired dozens of tracks from emerging young acts. The next year we did it all again and capped off the episode with a session from Jack Campbell.

Now we’re returning for round three, and on Sunday, September 7 we’ll go “Back To School” again.

On that Sunday’s episode, we’ll play music exclusively from high-school musicians, or those who have just graduated and are heading off to their freshman year of college in Minnesota. We want to shine a spotlight on all the promising new artists in the all-ages scene and blast their music out across our airwaves. And we need your help.

We’re looking for as many submissions as possible to prepare for this special Local Show episode. And we need your guidance on what’s hot and happenin’ in the high-school scene.

If you have music to submit, you can e-mail a download link to clean digital files (WAVs or mp3s only, please, with any swear words edited out) to Local Show host David Campbell and the rest of the team at localshow@mpr.org. Please include a brief bio, the names of the tracks, upcoming shows, any social media sites, and other pertinent info in the body of the message.

If you'd prefer to contact us by mail, you can ship a hard copy of your CD with a one-sheet to the following address:

Important: The submission deadline is end-of-day on Monday, August 25. All materials need to be received by that time in order to be considered.
