Ryan Adams’s new videos feature Bob Mould, dead parakeets, and zombies

In preparation for the release of his self-titled album tomorrow, Ryan Adams unleashed a promotional video in which he and Bob Mould appear in a studio trying to record music insightful enough to kill a parakeet. We are cautioned that the 14th album from the former Whiskeytown frontman is “not for the birds.”

A second video, a film noir public service announcement, warns that listening to Adams’ album will zombify you and everyone you know. Adams, having recently worked with Elvira, knows creepy when he sees it. (FYI, some language is NSFW.)

This is not the first time the two singer-songwriters have gone behind the camera together. Adams has a surprise cameo at the end of Mould’s up-close and sweaty new video, “The War.”

Producer Don Was (Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul Westerberg) and actors Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and Garry Shandling also appear in the video.

Adams will play Northrop on Oct. 13.
