First Avenue adds Slim Dunlap star

by Jay Gabler

June 10, 2015

The latest person to be recognized with a star on First Avenue's iconic wall is Slim Dunlap, a local singer-songwriter who's well-known as a member of the Replacements. Since 2012, Dunlap has suffered adverse health in the wake of a severe stroke, and local musicians have rallied to raise funds for Dunlap with projects including a Songs for Slim EP that brought the 'Mats back together.

"We [heart] you Slim!" writes the venue on Facebook. "This star is very well deserved. We can't believe we missed this one."

Read the stories behind some of First Ave's stars, with historical materials and fan memories, below. You can learn more about helping Slim Dunlap via the Songs for Slim website.
